Comment: The National Science Foundation is sponsoring an expert meeting that will consider options for a design for a new national survey on social mobility. A steering committee has been formed and the expert meeting has been scheduled for June 10, 2013. At the meeting, top experts in the social, behavioral, and economic sciences will present concept papers addressing the main problems that must be solved in developing a new survey protocol.

The meeting will be co-chaired by David Grusky and Matt Snipp of Stanford University, members of a group of experts which has been meeting to discuss the content and measurement issues for this important study area. The meeting will afford the opportunity for input from public and private organizations with interest in this area.
