Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Acute Pain – Nov. 13 Meeting
A committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that is developing a framework to evaluate the evidence base for existing clinical practice guidelines for prescribing opioids for acute pain indications will hold a public session on Nov. 13. The study also will identify surgical procedures and health conditions for which new guidelines should be developed and prioritize a research agenda to address the evidence gaps.
The focus of the meeting is for the committee to clarify the scope of the study with its sponsor – the U.S. Food and Drug Administration -- and initiate the process of gathering information relevant to the study.
The public session will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the National Academies’ Keck Center, 500 Fifth St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Reporters who wish to attend the meeting should register in advance with the Office of News and Public Information; tel. 202-334-2138 or email email@example.com. Those who cannot attend in person may register to attend via Zoom. The agenda is available online.
