Video Interview With NAE President

National Academy of Engineering President Charles M. Vest speaks with U.S. News and World Report's Editor Brian Kelly in an April 12 interview about the importance of K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in the U.S.

Vest reflects on the Rising Above the Gathering Storm reports, which examine the deteriorating state of U.S. competitiveness in the global job market, and discusses why STEM education is critical for all students and how educators, politicians, business leaders, the media, and others can improve it.

"My concern and those of all of my colleagues is really not just creating mores scientists and engineers," Vest says, 'it's that everybody's going to need some background in order to understand the world as it's going to be and to participate in it.'
