Annual Meeting of the National Academy of Sciences
From April 28 to May 1, the National Academy of Sciences will hold its 149th annual meeting, at which new Academy members will be elected. Election results will be available online at noon EDT on May 1 at http://national-academies.org. Reporters can register in advance to receive the list of new members via e-mail.
Public events include:
- April 28, 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. -- Induction ceremony and signing of the "Registry of Membership" for members elected in 2011. A reception will follow.
- April 30, 10:30 a.m. to noon -- Recipients of the 2012 NAS awards will be honored at a presentation ceremony. Among the winners is Harold Shapiro, professor of economics and public affairs and president emeritus of Princeton University, who will receive the 2012 Public Welfare Medal, the Academy's most prestigious award.
