Clinical Practice Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids for Acute Pain – Feb. 4 Workshop
A committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that is developing a framework to evaluate existing clinical practice guidelines for prescribing opioids for acute pain will hold a workshop on Feb. 4.
Presentations and discussions at the workshop will focus on identifying and prioritizing surgical procedures and medical conditions associated with acute pain where evidenced-based clinical practice guidelines would help inform prescribing of clinically necessary opioid analgesics. It will also assess what evidence is necessary or missing for each procedure/condition identified.
The workshop will be held Monday, Feb. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. EST, in Room 100 at the National Academies’ Keck Center, 500 Fifth St., N.W., Washington, D.C. Reporters who wish to attend the meeting should register in advance with the Office of News and Public Information; tel. 202-334-2138 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Those who cannot attend in person may register to watch the webcast. The agenda is available online.
