Jan. 18 Webinar – Gulf of Mexico’s Loop Current System

At this webinar, authors of Understanding and Predicting the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current: Critical Gaps and Recommendations, a recently released report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, will discuss the report’s comprehensive suite of recommended research activities designed to help better understand and predict the Gulf’s Loop Current System (LCS).  Improved knowledge about the dynamics of the LCS would provide critical information to help promote safer offshore operations, better understand the Gulf’s complex oceanographic systems, facilitate disaster response, help protect coastal communities, protect and manage ecological resources, and predict and forecast weather and climate impacts. Future related research funding opportunities through the National Academies’ Gulf Research Program will also be discussed.

The webinar will take place Thursday, Jan. 18 from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. EST.  Click here to register to participate.  For more information, reporters should contact the Academies’ Office of News and Public Information; tel. 202-334-2138 or email news@nas.edu.
