Concussions Among Youth Athletes: Institute of Medicine and National Research Council Meeting on Jan. 7


The Institute of Medicine and National Research Council will hold the first meeting for a new study on sports-related concussions in youth that will review the science on concussions, including  risk factors, long-term consequences, and the effectiveness of protective devices and equipment among other topics. IOM and the Research Council undertook the study in response to a request from members of the Senate. The open session at which the committee will hear from the project sponsors will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, in Room 100 of the National Academies' Keck Center, 500 Fifth St., N.W., Washington, D.C.  An agenda and more information on the study are available at
