Project Scope
|
The Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) has been charged to develop a National HIV/AIDS Strategy within the upcoming year. In support of this activity, the ONAP has requested that the Institute of Medicine convene a committee to conduct a series of three workshops and data gathering activities that will result in a series of three brief reports. The committee will plan and host workshops to explore: 1) the extent to which federal, state, and private health insurance policies pose a barrier to expanded HIV testing, 2) the capacity of the health care system to administer a greater number of HIV tests and to accommodate new HIV diagnoses, and 3) federal and state policies that may inhibit entry into clinical care or the provision of continuous and sustained clinical care. The reports will summarize data gathered through the workshops and other limited data gathering activities but will not make recommendations.
The project is sponsored by The White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP). The approximate start date for the project is 9/30/2009. Three workshop reports will be issued in the course of the project.
