PIN: FNBX-H-08-13-A

Major Unit:

Institute of Medicine

Sub Unit: Food and Nutrition Board

RSO: Yaktine, Ann

Project Scope
An ad hoc expert committee will undertake a study to review and recommend revisions to the United States Department of Agriculture's Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal requirements. The committee will review and assess the nutritional needs of the target populations based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Dietary Reference Intakes and use that review as a basis for recommended revisions to the meal requirements. The goal is development of well-conceived, practical, and economical recommendations that reflect current nutritional science, increase the availability of key food groups as appropriate, and allow the program to effectively meet the nutritional needs of the children and adults served.

The project is sponsored by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.

The approximate starting date for the project is September 1, 2009.

A report will be issued at the end of the project in approximately 16 months.
