PIN: DBASSE-CNSTAT-10-08

Major Unit:

Division of Behavioral and Social Sciences and Education

Sub Unit: Committee on National Statistics

RSO: Cohen, Michael

Subject/Focus Area: Engineering and Technology; National Security and Defense

Project Scope
The proposed project on reliability growth modeling is the latest in a series of studies at the National Research Council (NRC on improving the statistical methods used in defense systems testing and acquisition.   It features a public workshop with an agenda that will explore ways in which reliability growth models can be used to improve the development and performance of defense systems. Through invited presentations and discussion, the workshop will address a series of questions about the properties of existing reliability growth models and their applicability to defense systems.  The scope of the workshop and list of program participants will be developed by an expert ad hoc panel that will also write the final report that summarizes the findings of the workshop and provides recommendations to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The project is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. The start date for the project is October 1, 2010. The report is expected to be issued at the end of the project in approximately 18 months. Note: The project duration has been extended. The report is expected to delivered by October, 2013.”
